The Schroth Method - a scientifically proven spinal correction - is now available in Armenia.
Schroth method physical therapy for scoliosis
A healthy spine is the foundation of a full life. When posture is poor and scoliosis progresses, simple physical exercises are no longer effective. In such cases, a specialized technique is needed, aimed not simply at strengthening muscles, but also at restoring the body's natural symmetry and proper breathing.
The Schroth Method is considered one of the most effective and internationally recognized approaches—and today, the original Schroth method is available in Armenia only at the Luys Barry.

What is the Schroth Method?

The Schroth Method was developed by German physiotherapist Katharina Schroth in the 1920s. As a young woman, she suffered from scoliosis herself and, unable to find an effective treatment, began searching for a way to correct the deformity herself. This is how the three-dimensional spinal correction and breathing therapy system was born, later recognized worldwide as an effective and safe alternative to surgical intervention for scoliosis.

Principles of the Schroth Method
The method is based on the following principles:
  • Three-dimensional posture correction - exercises aimed at correcting the spine in three planes simultaneously (forward-backward, sideways, and along the axis of rotation).
  • Schroth derotational breathing - a special type of breathing that "opens" the concave areas of the ribcage, restoring body symmetry.
  • Active conscious correction - the patient learns to feel and control their body, gradually developing correct movement habits.
  • Individual approach - each exercise is selected depending on the specific type and degree of scoliosis.

Thanks to its systematic approach, the Schroth method not only helps slow or stop the progression of scoliosis but also improves posture, reduces pain, and normalizes breathing.
Who is the Schroth method suitable for?
The Schroth method is used in both children and adults, regardless of the severity of spinal deformity.

It is especially effective for:
  • idiopathic scoliosis (in adolescents and adults);
  • postural disorders associated with a sedentary lifestyle;
  • hyperkyphosis, kyphoscoliosis;
  • postoperative rehabilitation after spinal interventions;
  • preventing the progression of deformities and strengthening the back muscles.
Why Luys Barry?
The Luys Barry Rehabilitation Center is the only center in Armenia where Schroth rehabilitation is performed by a certified specialist who has completed international training using the original German program.
This means that the method is implemented strictly according to international ISST (International Schroth Three-Dimensional Scoliosis Therapy) standards, guaranteeing the safety and effectiveness of the therapy.
Our specialist is proficient in all stages of diagnosis and correction: from assessing the type of scoliotic deformity to individually selecting exercises and breathing techniques.
Each session takes place in a calm environment, under the close supervision of an instructor, with detailed correction of the patient's position and breathing.
How are the sessions conducted?
Schroth sessions are more than just gymnastics. They are individualized training sessions during which the patient:

  • Explores their body and posture

  • Learns derotational breathing

  • Performs specially selected exercises in front of a mirror, using bolsters, walls, supports, and other assistive devices

  • Receives recommendations on how to sit, stand, move, and breathe correctly in everyday life.
    Over time, the patient begins to consciously control their body, which leads to a sustainable improvement in posture, even outside of classes
